Networking

§  More than 200 neurological surgeons in Texas are members.

§  Each member receives a TANS annual membership directory, a guide to all members in Texas.

§  The TANS newsletter, keeps the members up-to-date on the latest events effecting neurological surgery

 

Educational Opportunities

§  The TANS educational programs are nationally regarded as one of the best state offerings for a comprehensive view of neurological surgery – socioeconomic issues combined with a strong clinical component. 

§  The TANS holds an annual educational program updating members on the latest techniques in neurological surgery.

§  Continuing education meeting the ethics requirement by the Texas Medical Board is a part of the annual meeting – featuring several lectures that qualify. 

 

Legislative and Promotional Efforts

§  The TANS represents the Neurosurgical opinion on important legislative issues concerning neurological surgery with our own lobbyist, political action committee, TANSPAC, as well as with representation on the Texas Medical Association Interspecialty Committee, the Medicare Advisory Panel.

§  The TANS works with national associations like American Association Neurological Surgeons (AANS), Congress of Neurosurgeons (CNS) to promote the unique Texas perspective in neurological surgery.

  

MEMBERSHIP CATEGORIES  

Active Members

Active Members must be:

·         A licensed doctor of medicine and/or osteopathy practicing neurological surgery in the state of Texas, and

·         certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery, the American Board of Osteopathic Neurological Surgery, the equivalent, or

·         completed residency training requirements of a program approved by the American Board of Neurologoical Surgery, the American Board of Osteopathic Neurological Surgery or

·         have unique training or qualification in neurological surgery, with appropriate documentation, which may entitle the applicant to membership.

Dues are $250 per year.

 

Associate Members

Associate members are licensed doctors of medicine or osteopathy practicing in Texas, certified by their related science specialty board who are in the long close liaison and cooperation with an active member in his/her neurosurgical work.  Associate members may not vote or hold office but have all other rights and privileges of membership.

Dues are $250 per year.

 

                    Senior/Retired Members

         Those Active TANS members who request Senior Membership after the age of 65 years; or those Active members transferred to Senior status by action of the Board of Directors one year following their retirement from the active practice of the Neurological Surgery. Senior members may not hold office and are not required to pay dues but may enjoy all the other benefits of membership.  A senior member may be restored to Active Membership status by the Board of Directors upon appropriate written request. Dues are $0.

 

            Candidate Members (Resident/Fellow)

         Candidate membership is open to doctors of medicine or osteopathy currently in a certified Neurological Surgery training program.  Candidate members may not vote or hold office and are not required to pay dues.  Dues are $0.
